| Craig Rowland wrote in "Fans Around The World » How did you find Värttinä?":
"I still fall into a hypnotic-like trance when I hear Antto chanting in the background. What an amazing song!"
Sorry, but this is not the way how I listen to music. The most important thing in music are IMHO melody, harmony, and rhythm (exactly in that order). How much of this is in "Itkin"? Only a short, simple, boring melody, almost no harmony at all, only rhythm. This can not satisfy me.
You even know the name of the background singer? I don't care at all. My biggest interest is the composer who invented the melodies and harmonies of my favorite songs.
Paul Lenz |

| Hei Paul
What's the big deal with this? You don't have to like Itkin. You have a different kind of aproach to music than Craig or I guess most of us.
Me myself and I think that you can't separate different elements of music. It's all or nothing to me.
So I agree with Craig or at least think know what he is after. I'm not in trance when listening to Itkin but it certainly has great effect on me. It has very beautiful lyrics making lovely tones.
I feel the most important thing in this kind of music is that it touches you. It might make you heart cold or warm. Any way - it makes a difference. |

| Hallo Paul and my Värttinä friends
First of all I would like to state that a fan of Värttinä is a friend of mine. We all love this group and I am so happy to have found a Forum like this to share our thoughts.
We all have our favourite songs and since I am so particularly fond of "Itkin", and since Paul's initial posting seemed so much to dislike it, I wanted to question why he felt this way.
As I stated earlier, I respect his opinion and anyone else's who does not find "Itkin" appealing. I just wanted to see what made this song so unfavourable to him.
I react to Värttinä's music in a way unlike to the music of any other band. I will comment to a recent post in another subject field about how becoming a fan of Värttinä's music has changed my life and led me on a passionate life-journey to Finland and the Nordic countries.
Paul: whenever I see you I will shake your hand! Welcome to the Forum from Craig in Kanada. |

I know, that this Thread is old - but just now I noticed that you, Paul Lenz wrote (in the 'Fans around the word'-Section) that you think Itkin, Kappee and Meri are awful !?
With respect I must tell you, that I can-not understand that. Kappee happens to be the song that made me love Värttinä and learn finnish as well as the karelian language.
And Meri is so absolutetly wonderful - it makes shiver every time I hear it...
But as always - this is a question of taste and we could discuss that point for years and years... |

| In my opinion Itkin is one of the most interesting songs Värttinä has made and I find it very good. |

| Has anyone heard the Bagad Saint Nazaire version of Itkin? They play it on bagpipes. |

Yes, I find it's quite interesting like song. It's unusual but it keeps the feel f the song. I would like to hear the result with varttina singing along. |

I have to say, the originating post of this thread ought to have been deleted for its sheer rudeness and arrogance.
It's fine not to like a song. What makes it okay to insult people who do like the song, and act like your opinions about what's important in a song are the only ones that matter? This is one of the few tactless and narrow-minded posts I have observed in this forum. |

| Although I've loved "Itkin" since 2001, it was mindblowing to listen to it when I was high. |
